swatchbook partners with Bandicoot Imaging Sciences for material digitization
The Australian startup provides a new approach to material digitization with outstanding results, now available for swatchbook subscribers
Irvine, CA, and Sydney, Australia, May 4, 2021 - swatchbook, inc. today announced that Bandicoot Imaging Sciences has joined the swatchbook ecosystem as an official “swatchbook service center”, adding support for swatchbook customers to have their materials digitized. By taking a new approach to scanning, Bandicoot is able to provide digitized material very quickly, with highest accuracy, and at a low price.
Bandicoot is swatchbook’s 5th service center, further expanding the company’s global coverage of digitization services and giving its clients access to services around the clock, around the world.
“With the fashion industry embracing the move to digital, the need to quickly and simply digitize fabrics and showcase them has never been more apparent”, says David Monaghan, co-founder and CEO of Bandicoot Imaging Sciences. “swatchbook offers a platform that allows their customers a quick and simple way to manage their assets and we want to complement that by providing swatchbook customers with a new, low cost way to scan their materials in house.”
A new approach
Bandicoot was founded by four engineers with extensive experience in image processing who all worked together at Canon's Australian R&D center.
Bandicoot offers a unique approach to material digitization by using a handheld camera to capture a series of images of the material. These images are then processed using Bandicoot's proprietary Shimmer Scan algorithm to deliver industry standard texture maps and also a Shimmer View.
A Bandicoot Shimmer View is a sophisticated and interactive digital rendering of a material, easily embedded within a website, and conveying accurate color and detail. As the viewer tilts their phone or moves their mouse they can see the texture of the original material and the way light plays across it.
Using a handheld camera has the additional benefit that Bandicoot can digitize materials with large patterns and repeats up to B1 in size, significantly exceeding the size limitations of other industry leading material scanning solutions.
This new approach is available as a service through Bandicoot and is also available for clients to carry out themselves using their own mirrorless or DSLR camera together with the company's cloud services.
Bandicoot digital imaging service allows for accurate digitization of a variety of materials of up to 1 meter in width
“Bandicoot’s scanning approach gets closer to the “holy grail” of material digitization for the fashion industry: fast, cheap, and highly accurate”, says Yazan Malkosh, Founder and CEO of swatchbook. “Bandicoot and their team is a great addition to the swatchbook ecosystem by providing new service options in the Asia/Pacific region, and joining us in helping the fashion industry in their digital transformation journey.”
